PRODUCT AWARDS

The Product of the year award categories recognize the outstanding products within each category and is determined by retailer vote. SBIA Retail Members cast one vote considering product innovation, design and sales performance and carries 100% weighting. As detailed in the Entry Process if a Brand / Manufacturer does not wish to become an SBIA Member, they are required to pay an Entry Administration Fee. Each Product Award Category fee is $5500.00 (inc GST). This payment is to be made when entering submission for the category(s).

Product Innovation of the Year*

Product Awards Framework
  • Products must have been in the market during the previous calendar year
  • Products must be a specific STYLE of the category, not a range. For example; Wetsuit OTY – BRAND – “Style Name” Long Sleeve Steamer
  • Products will be voted on innovation, design and sales performance
  • Maximum of one product per category per Brand / Manufacturer
  • Surfing Accessory of the Year – The product must be an accessory used in the sport of surfing, excluding softgoods and clothing. Equipment that goes on or around the surfboard.
 Voting Criteria

When voting SBIA Retail Members need to consider the following criteria (for the non-judged product categories);

  • Was the product innovative?
  • Was the product well designed?
  • Did the product sell/perform well in store?

 

*Product Innovation – Judged Category Framework
  • The Product Innovation category is open to all products in all categories. Entrants are to completeand submit the Australian Surf Industry Awards Product Innovation OTY Entry Pro Forma, supplied by SBIA. This submission form is available for download from the forms page
  • The submission is to detail the product’s competitive advantage, innovation and design benefits. Videos and/or images to support the submission are encouraged. These must be in a valid format of .pdf, .jpeg, .mp4 also accepted are links to vimeo / youtube and or other photo / video hosting websites. If using a web host, Brands / Manufacturers are to ensure the videos have embedding abilities. All other Product Awards Framework information is applicable to this category.
Areas that need to addressed when completing the submission:
  • Detail whether the product is a modified version of an existing product, a new model in the existing product range, or a totally new product
  • Explain the product’s concept and design benefits
  • Provide an overview of the value, need, differentiation and advantage this product has in the marketplace
  • Detail how the concept is delivered to the marketplace and it’s competitive advantage
  • Outline the impact the product has on the marketplace; sustainability, potential etc.
Judging Criteria

Judging is based on all the information the submissions detail as well as any supporting collateral. Judging carries 100% weighting. For more information about judging please refer to the Judging Information.
Judges need to consider if the product(s) have commercial appeal.
The judging will consider the applicant’s creative approach to the criteria and its presentation within the judging process

 

MARKETING AWARDS

The Marketing Awards recognize the surf industry’s best, most creative, marketing campaign by an apparel, footwear, wetsuit, hardgoods or accessory brand in the eyes of its retailers. SBIA Retail Members cast one vote considering the campaign’s creative, brand image, execution and market positioning for print, digital and point of purchase material and carries 100% weighting. As detailed in the Entry Process if a Brand / Manufacturer does not wish to become an SBIA Member, they are required to pay an Entry Administration Fee. Each Product Award Category fee is $5500.00 (inc GST). This payment is to be made when entering submission for the category(s).

Mens Marketing Campaign of the Year

Marketing Award Frameworks
  • Campaigns must have been in the market during the previous calendar year.
  • Campaign must be a specific CAMPAIGN of the brand. For example; Mens Marketing Campaign OTY – BRAND – “Campaign Name”
  • Maximum of one campaign per Brand.
  • Brands are required to submit a digital copy of their campaign video and/or images to support their entry.
  • These are to be emailed to the Administration Officer at admin@sbia.com.au. These must be in a valid format of .pdf, .jpeg, .mp4 also accepted are links to vimeo / youtube and or other photo / video hosting websites. If using a web host, Brands are to ensure the videos have embedding abilities.
  • Campaign will be voted on creativity, brand image, execution and market positioning for print, digital and point of purchase material.
Voting Criteria

When voting SBIA Retail Members need to consider the following criteria;

  • Was the campaign creative?
  • Was the brand image displayed well?
  • Was the campaign well executed?
  • Did the campaign generate sales?

 

SALES & CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARDS

The Brand / Manufacturer Sales & Customer Service Awards recognize the industry’s best Sales & Customer Service Office and Sales Representative or Agency in the eyes of the industry’s retailers. SBIA Retail members cast one vote considering the support and customer service received and carries 100% weighting. As detailed in the Entry Process if a Brand / Manufacturer does not wish to become an SBIA Member, they are required to pay an Entry Administration Fee. Each Product Award Category fee is $5500.00 (inc GST). This payment is to be made when entering submission for the category(s).

  • Sales & Customer Service Office must be a specific OFFICE LOCATION of the brand. For example; Sales Office OTY – BRAND – Office Location.
  • Sales Representative must be a CURRENT EMPLOYED REPRESENTATIVE OR AGENT of a SBIA brand member. For example; Sales Representative OTY – BRAND – Persons Name.
  • Sales & Customer Service Office’s and Sales Representative’s will be voted on considering support and customer service received
 Voting Criteria

When voting SBIA Retail Members need to consider the following criteria;

  • Do they understand your business needs?
  • Do they work with you to achieve a collaborative outcomes
  • Do they help drive sales through your business?
  • Do they provide your business with outstanding customer support?

 

BRAND AWARDS

The following category awards recognize the surf industries leading brands for each category in the eyes of its retailers and consumers. SBIA Retail Members cast one vote considering sales performance, service and overall business relationship and carries 100% weighting. As detailed in the Entry Process if a Brand / Manufacturer does not wish to become an SBIA Member, they are required to pay an Entry Administration Fee. Each Product Award Category fee is $5500.00 (inc GST). This payment is to be made when entering submission for the category(s).

  • The Breakthrough Brand of the Year award recognizes brands that have only been in the marketplace for five years or less.
  • Brands will be voted on considering quality of products, marketing execution, customer and sales service, profitability and contribution to the surf and board sports.
 Voting Criteria

When voting SBIA Retail Members need to consider the following criteria;

  • Do they offer quality products?
  • Do they have exceptional Marketing execution that generates business?
  • Do they provide quality customer service support?
  • Do they provide outstanding sales service?
  • Are the profitable for your business?
  • Do they contribute to the surf and board sports?
