Minimum Pay Increase From July 1
Recently the Fair Work Commission in its Annual Wage Review decided to increase minimum rates of pay.
The increase is effective from July 1, 2015 and key points for retailers include:
- The national full-time minimum wage for award/agreement free employees will increase to $656.90 per week. This equates to $17.29 per hour for a part time employee (additional 25% loading for casuals).
- All modern award minimum wages will increase by 2.5%.
- The weekly full-time rate for a Retail Employee Level 1 will increase to $721.50.
In order to avoid costly employee underpayment claims, employers should ensure that all employees are being paid at least the applicable modern award rate.
