Surfing NSW and Vissla announced an agreement last month that will see Vissla come on board as the naming rights sponsor for the NSW Pro Series for 2017 and 2018.

The pro series was launched last year and consists of four WSL Qualifying 1000 rated events which gives Australian surfers a great opportunity to secure ratings points early in the season. The series is also supported by the New South Wales government through its tourism and events branch, Destination NSW and the series gives great exposure to different parts of the state with the four events being held at Maroubra, Cabarita, Avoca and Boomerang.

Kicking off at Maroubra with the Carve Pro on Jan 19-22, the series then moves to Cabarita for the Tweed Coast Pro on Feb 1-5, followed by the Komunity Project Great Lakes Pro at Boomerang on Feb 7-11 before the series wraps up with the Komunity Project Central Coast Pro at Avoca on March 8-12.

Each event will attract over 200 competitors across the men’s and women’s divisions, providing a great platform for some of Australia’s most promising surfing talent.  The series is being billed as something of a surf trip to some great surf locations and no doubt the local businesses, including surf retailers, in each area will benefit from the events.

When you throw in the two World Qualifying 6000s at Newcastle on Merewether on Feb 20-26 and the Australian Open of Surfing at Manly on Feb 27-March 5, it is expected a large overseas contingent of international competitors will be covering a lot of kilometres across the state.

Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden is stoked to have Vissla sign on as naming rights sponsor for the series and is confident the series will enjoy continued growth over the next few years.

‘The Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series was developed for Australian and International surfers to gain ranking points and prize money on the WSL Qualifying Series,” Luke told the SBIA. “The series also creates a NSW coastal road trip for all to explore the variety of waves, visit local communities and enjoy NSW surfing culture.”

“It also helps us build our brand awareness and hopefully that translates into more business for our retail partners.”

For Vissla, the sponsorship is another example of the brand’s involvement in all facets of surfing.

“We are trying to be a responsible contributor to the surfing community and

that has been infused into our brand DNA,” said Vissla’s John Mossop. “We demonstrate that across a range of areas from our commitment to independent brick-and-mortar retailers and the development of sustainable products through to the events and surfers we are supporting.

“The Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series is a nice fit as it helps provide that essential pathway for our junior surfers and emerging talent to earn the points they need to progress their careers. It also helps us build our brand awareness and hopefully that translates into more business for our retail partners. Vissla is proud to come on board and we look forward to crowning a series champion for 2017.”
