Welcome to Behind The Shaper – a brand new series presented by @urbnsurf and @surfvisuals that celebrates the tall tales of the most important people in surfing, the shapers.
The first instalment of Behind The Shaper heroes 12 well-known and underground shapers from Victoria’s iconic Surf Coast, a birthplace of surfing culture, industry and craftsmanship regarded around the world. What started out as a small project quickly ballooned into a 80 page magazine with photography by @edsloanephoto, a web and social content series, a 6 episode podcast mini-series by @lippedpodcast, and the construction of custom surfboards to be ridden by the shapers in URBNSURF Melbourne’s lagoon later in 2019.
Behind The Shaper – Next Friday, May 24th!
We hope you’ve enjoyed Behind The Shaper thus far – we’re honoured to tell their tall tales, and shine a light on their incredible craftsmanship. And there’s more to come. Ahead of our gallery exhibition in Melbourne on Friday, May 24th (get your tix now via bit.ly/BehindTheShaper), each of the 12 shapers have created a custom surfboard for themselves to ride at URBNSURF Melbourne later this year, based on a top-secret wave brief that we supplied them. All the boards will be on display at 524 Flinders Street, along with photos by Ed Sloane Photography, local DJ’s pumping tunes, and a live Q&A by Lipped the Surfers Podcast. For just $20 your ticket includes a Noble Boy Beer (with extra tins for $5) and your own copy of Behind The Shaper, so we hope to see you there!
