World leading surf hardware company Creatures of Leisure, 3X world champion Mick Fanning and non-profit organization FightMND are teaming up for a surf-based fundraiser to help raise money and unleash a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.

Motor Neurone Disease is a neurodegenerative disease that causes rapidly progressive muscle weakness. The horrible and debilitating disease gradually takes away patient’s use of their arms and legs, speech, their ability to eat, swallow and ultimately their ability to breathe…all in an average timeframe of just 27 months. It currently affects more than 2,000 people across Australia. With no known cure or effective treatment, FightMND and Creatures of Leisure are dedicated to helping raise funds for research efforts in finding a cure.

The contest will cost $20 to enter with all contributions going directly towards MND research efforts to help find a cure for this brutal disease. As part of the campaign, Creatures of Leisure has developed a limited edition FightMND leash which can be purchased online at creatures.com.au or at select retailers in Australia. Profits from the leash are going directly to FightMND’s research funds to help find a cure.

The contest will run November 6 – January 1, 2019. The winning prize includes a private surf session with Mick and your best mate at URBNSURF Melbourne, Australia’s first surf park, along with:

  • 2X round trip flights to Melbourne and accommodation at Mantra
  • 2X VIP Passes to the RIP CURL Pro Bells Beach
  • 2X tickets to an AFL game at the MCG
The winner will be drawn January 11, 2019.

Spearheading the campaign alongside Creatures of Leisure and FightMND is 3X world champion surfer Mick Fanning, “I’ve seen the effects of this horrendous disease firsthand, we need to do everything we can as a sporting community to help find effective treatment and ultimately a cure. I’m honoured to be a part of this project and assist this amazing organization in gaining awareness to MND and raise funding for research.”

Neale Daniher, Co-founder and Vice Chairman of FightMND and former Essendon player and Melbourne Football Club Coach was diagnosed with MND in 2013 and continues to live life to the fullest, with a persistent drive to help prevent the suffering of those that may be diagnosed with this disease through a team effort like this fundraising contest, “We are really grateful that all these fantastic people and companies have come together to help fight MND. Mick has been a supporter since we started and with Creatures of Leisure leading the charge with other great sponsors and companies like Qantas, Mantra and URBNSURF, it’s an unbelievable competition. Thanks to everyone involved.“

As URBNSURF prepares for its Melbourne surf park to be producing first waves in early 2019, its Founder and Exec Chairman Andrew Ross is honoured to support the ‘Unleash a Cure’ campaign by providing a unique opportunity for the winners to surf perfect waves with Mick at Australia’s first surf park in April, ”Fight MND are doing amazing work in the community to assist Australians with Motor Neurone Disease and to support their families. We are stoked to be a part of this project which seeks to raise awareness concerning MND and to raise funds which will advance research efforts to ultimately find a cure.” Both the Creatures of Leisure team and FightMND are extremely excited to launch this contest and see what the wonderful people of Australia can do to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.
