The SBIA, in conjunction with John Blake sales training and Velpic, launched the first ever surf retail specific sales training program in July and at this stage 19 leading surf retailers have registered for their staff to complete the program.

The online training program offers a cost-effective way of training your staff, and can be done in house and after hours. The customer’s experience is the most important aspect in a successful retail business and this program allows you to train every sales person who works on the floor. This will ensure your staff offer quality and consistent customer service, regardless of if the team member is part time, casual or full time.


Justin Bellwood from Aquatique in Nowra is “super supportive” of the program and sees a bright future for the program.

“We had most of our staff, around 30 at this time of year, complete the training and have had some really positive feedback,” Justin said. “We have even had staff who have been here for 20 years saying they learnt something.  New staff are issued with a log-in for the training and usually complete the program on the first night. This establishes a good ‘base line’ for our expected service level and is a great induction tool.”
